How Breath Death Cracked TikTok Shop: Funnels, Affiliates, and $0 Creator Content

Eric and I went through the Breath Death channel build in the order it happened: YouTube creator content that kept converting long after the videos went up, TikTok Shop run as a core channel rather than a side experiment, and what that did to Amazon. Then the mechanics: the hook, integration and call-to-action structure I use for creator-led ads, and the landing page that has to match it.

The back half is the part I get asked about most: why I brief creative on psychographics rather than demographics, how I think about affiliates from nano creators up to the big partners, what changes on Meta when the product is low-AOV, and what retention looks like once you are past email.

Amazon Ads, Incrementality & Growth: Thomas Robinson’s D2C Playbook

An audio conversation with Maheen Bari about the parts of the job that don’t photograph well: structuring an Amazon ad account so it stops paying for sales the brand would have had anyway, why I would rather run an incrementality test than argue about attribution, treating the media budget as capital across PPC, paid social and CTV, and the systems thinking behind a growth engagement.

  • Amazon ad accounts built for profit, not for the ROAS screenshot
  • Incrementality as the scoreboard; attribution as an input
  • Capital-based media buying across PPC, paid social and CTV
  • Category disruption with creator content
  • Systems thinking inside a growth engagement
For producers and editors

Booking Thomas, and the short version of who he is.

Thomas Robinson is the founder of DirectToGrowth Co., a fractional growth practice for D2C and marketplace brands, based in Victoria, BC. He spent five years inside Amazon across paid search, paid social and outbound marketing in Canada, the US and the UK, then five years as the growth lead at Tiege Hanley as it grew from startup to $20M+, and has since worked hands-on with D2C brands up to $30M+. He talks in numbers, names the mechanism, and says so when the evidence is thin.

Things he can go deep on

  • Amazon ad account structure: brand defence capped, the rest pointed at new customers, TACoS as the guardrail
  • Incrementality, geo tests and what attribution tools are actually for
  • Creator and affiliate programs priced on halo lift in branded search, direct and organic
  • Meta creative testing: tagging, launch cadence and getting budget out of the learning phase
  • Marketing spend as a share of net revenue, CAC against twelve-month contribution, agreed with finance
  • Marketplace expansion: running one Amazon playbook in the US, Canada, Europe and Mexico
